Mission Statement

The Claremont McKenna College Philosophy Club seeks to foster an engaged student community around a shared passion for philosophy, to promote intellectual curiosity, and to further the liberal arts mission within the College.

Reading Groups

Join us every other week for a small reading group. We discuss short philosophy papers in a friendly environment.

Student Mixers

Throughout the semester, we offer social gatherings for philosophy-interested students to meet each other over food and drinks. Faculty often attend!

Community Engagement

Meet the Executive Board

President

Ricky Qiang '29

Ricky is an aspirational PPE/Gov major from Vancouver, Canada. He is currently focused on political and ethical philosophy, but looks forward to exploring everything as a freshman. Ricky looks forward to developing and fostering the philosophy club during his time here and engaging in interesting discussions about anything philosophical!

Jasper Langley-Hawthorne '27

Jasper is a PPE major from Denver, Colorado. He most enjoys political philosophy and questions of sovereignty and legitimacy. He looks forward to fostering illuminating (or, at the very least entertaining) discussions in the club community, and hopes he never befalls the dire misfortune of understanding Hegel.

Secretary

Jason Bao '27

Jason is a Psychology and Philosophy (hopefully) double major from Vancouver, Canada. He primarily specializes in philosophy of mind and its related metaphysical puzzles + scientific challenges. But he is also broadly interested in the ethics of novel technologies, from pediatric neuroenhancement to the connectionism-based deep-learning neural nets (more colloquially known as AI). Overall, he is excited to help found a philosophy student community on CMC that is as strong as its department!

Violet Ramanathan '27

Violet is a PPE and Government dual major from Wayland, MA - although she spent 3 years living in Stockholm, Sweden! Violet is particularly interested in moral epistemology and political philosophy, but she is excited to explore new fields through the club while fostering a strong, intellectually curious community.
